Nexo Review: Bitcoin Loan Comparison

By Steven Han and Michael Song · Rate data verified October 30, 2026 · Verified daily · Rate last changed July 15, 2026

Nexo offers crypto-backed credit lines, letting you borrow against Bitcoin and 30+ other supported digital assets in the US without selling, which generally avoids realizing a capital gain. It relaunched in the US in February 2026 in partnership with Bakkt. A borrower holding no NEXO tokens pays 15.9% APR, the rate we compare on. Lower Wealth Club tier rates, from 12.9% down to as low as 0.9%, require holding NEXO, Nexo's own token, and also depend on your loan-to-value.

In Nexo’s words

Provided by Nexo

We have offered crypto-backed credit lines since 2018, through multiple market cycles, to 10M+ clients worldwide. In February 2026, we relaunched in the United States in partnership with Bakkt, bringing that same track record to American borrowers.

What we offer borrowers

  • No origination fees and no monthly fees
  • A wide borrowing range, suitable for both small and large positions
  • US availability through our regulated partner Bakkt since February 2026

Built for borrowers who want liquidity without selling. Bitcoin holders often need cash, from a real estate down payment to everyday spending to a new opportunity. Selling means realizing a taxable gain; borrowing against Bitcoin generally does not. The Nexo Credit Line is built for that: borrow against Bitcoin and other digital assets, combined in a single credit line, starting from 0.9% annual interest at the top Wealth Club tier.

Rate, speed, and flexibility. Our rate structure is tied to NEXO token holdings and loan-to-value: the more of your portfolio held in NEXO tokens, the closer your rate moves toward the 0.9% floor. Funding is instant once approved. There is no origination fee and no monthly fee, and repayment follows no fixed schedule.

Built to scale. Credit lines range from $50 to $2 million, with the same instant, revolving structure at every level. Nexo Private clients can access up to $200 million in liquidity.

Portfolio flexibility. Collateral can be added, swapped, or rebalanced across supported assets as market conditions change, without closing the credit line.

A worked example

Consider a borrower holding $500,000 in Bitcoin, acquired several years ago at a fraction of today's price, who needs $150,000 for a real estate down payment. Selling that much Bitcoin would realize a substantial capital gain and create a tax liability on top of the funds already needed for closing. Borrowing against it does not.

At our 50% maximum LTV, a $500,000 Bitcoin position supports a credit line of up to $250,000, so a $150,000 draw sits at 30% LTV with room to spare. It is funded instantly once approved, and can be drawn against Bitcoin alone or against Bitcoin combined with other digital assets in the same credit line. The rate applied depends on NEXO token holdings and LTV, ranging from as low as 0.9% at qualifying tiers to 15.9% without NEXO holdings. Either way the underlying Bitcoin position stays intact, and any further price appreciation still belongs to the borrower.

Repayment follows no fixed schedule: the borrower can repay in full once other funds arrive, make partial payments over time, or carry the balance, provided the loan-to-value stays within our threshold. The same structure applies whether the need is a down payment, a tax bill, or capital for a separate opportunity, and at larger scale Nexo Private extends it up to $200 million in liquidity.

We have operated this model since 2018, across multiple market cycles.

Key facts

  • Relaunched in the US in February 2026 in partnership with Bakkt, a publicly listed US company, after a 2022 exit
  • Operating since 2018; Nexo reports 10M+ clients, $7B+ in assets under management and a $1.7B+ loan book, and states it is SOC 2 Type 2 certified
  • 15.9% APR without NEXO token holdings; Wealth Club tiers holding NEXO tokens are priced from 12.9% down to as low as 0.9%
  • BTC, ETH and 30+ supported assets can be combined in one credit line; LTV 50% on BTC and ETH, 90% on USDT and USDC
  • $50 to $2M per day, up to $200M for Nexo Private clients, no origination or monthly fees
  • Partial automatic repayment: if your LTV reaches Nexo's threshold, part of the collateral repays part of the credit line and the rest of the position stays open
  • Instant approval with no credit check; Nexo says funds typically arrive within hours
  • Borrowing, unlike selling, generally is not treated as a taxable event

Zero-interest Credit (a separate product)

Nexo also offers Zero-interest Credit: no interest and no fees for the contract. It works differently from the Credit Line, and it is not a 0% version of it, so we do not include it in our rate comparisons. In the US, Nexo says it is available through Nexo OTC rather than in the app.

How it works

  • You choose the collateral (BTC, ETH, SOL or XRP), the amount, a term of 5 days to 12 months, and payout in USDC or USDT. Up to $5 million per loan.
  • You also set two prices: a Minimum Repayment Price and a Maximum Repayment Price.
  • There are no margin calls or liquidation during the term.
  • It is repaid in full at maturity, or renewed for another term. Nexo says collateral used for it cannot also back a Credit Line.

What it costs you instead of interest

  • Capped upside. If the price is above your Maximum Repayment Price at maturity, your collateral is sold at that price to repay the credit. You keep gains only up to that level, and a sale can be a taxable event, unlike simply borrowing.
  • Settlement in collateral on a fall. If the price is below your Minimum Repayment Price at maturity, the credit settles at that price and is repaid using your collateral.
  • Between the two prices, it settles at market and you can repay in stablecoins and keep your collateral, or renew.

Refinancing

Open / revolving lineNo refinance neededCash-out available

Nexo is a revolving credit line with no maturity, so refinancing does not apply. You repay and re-borrow at will, and adding collateral raises your available credit directly.

*Nexo is compared at 15.9%, its rate without NEXO tokens, the same basis as every other lender here. The indented row shows its Wealth Club tier rates, which require holding NEXO (see the tier table above) and fall with LTV, so they are not a like-for-like comparison.

For illustrative purposes only. APRs shown are modelled on the same scenario for every lender, a $100,000 loan at 50% LTV, and include origination fees where a lender charges them. They are not quotes, offers, or approvals, and your actual rate depends on loan size, LTV, state, and each lender's underwriting. Rates and terms change without notice. Key risks

  • Nexo states that US client assets are held with Bakkt. Nexo's standard terms permit rehypothecation (re-lending of pledged collateral), and whether the US structure prevents it has not been confirmed to us, so it is worth asking directly
  • A lower tier rate depends on holding NEXO, a volatile token issued by Nexo. If its price falls and your NEXO share drops below a tier's requirement, your rate can rise (Nexo keeps your tier for seven days first)
  • Nexo's US borrow page does not list its margin-call and liquidation thresholds; confirm them in the Nexo app before borrowing
  • Regulatory history includes settled 2023 SEC and multistate matters over its Earn Interest Product
